How To Get Here We are a fly in operation and access to our camp, will be via a commercial floatplane operation out of Thorburn Lake, near Clarenville, Newfoundland. Should you wish to travel directly to my home town of Conne River, your flight into camp will originate from here. To come to Newfoundland, you can travel by motor vehicle to North Sydney in the Canadian Province of Nova Scotia and take a Marine Atlantic Ferry (1-800-341-7981) across ninety miles of ocean to Port aux Basque Newfoundland. This is a very large ocean liner and it moves both people and vehicles. It has overnight accommodations as well as dining and bar service. Upon arriving in Port aux Basque, Newfoundland, you will travel six and one half hours to Clarenville where Accommodations can be had at the Clarenville Inns Inc. 1-709-466-7911 or the St. Jude Hotel 1-800-563-7800. ![]() If you wish to fly to the lodge from my home town of Conne River, you can turn off the Trans Canada Highway onto route 360 ( ten miles east of Grand Falls ) and drive for 84 miles through wilderness to Baie d'Espoir where accommodations can be obtained at the St. Alban's Inn 1 709-538-3885 Fax 1-709-538-3891, the Motel Baie d'Espoir (1-709-882-2427, Fax 1-709-882-2099) or the Vancor Motel (1-709-882-2766). The Conne River seaplane base from which you will fly to Amalijek Lodge is located at Jipujeej Park. This park is accessible by vehicle from all three hotels, the greatest distance being a thirty-five minute ride from the St. Alban's Inn, and twenty minutes from both Motel Baie d'Espoir and the Vancor Motel. Should you wish fly to Newfoundland, both Air Canada (1-888-247-2262) and CanJet Airlines Ltd. (1-800-809-7777) have scheduled flights from major US and Canadian airports to St. John's, Newfoundland. While many of our clients drive to North Sydney in Nova Scotia, take the ferry across to Port aux Basque and continue their drive to Clarenville, Newfoundland; a greater number prefer to fly direct from Halifax, Toronto or Montreal to St. John's. After arriving in St. John's, clients rent a van and drive two hours to Thorburn Lake Seaplane Base 1-709-466-7823, near Clarenville, where they are flown from the seaplane base by floatplane to our lodge. Clients flyiing into St. John's usually stay at the Comfort Inn Hotel, 106 Airport Road, 1-709-753-3500 located only 1.5 kilometres from the Airport. Van rentals are available from the airport at very competitive rates. The early Sunday morning drive to the Thorburn Seaplane Base is of two hours duration straight onto the Trans Canada Highway from the Comfort Inn Hotel and through some of the most beautiful country in Newfoundland, arriving at the seaplane base for the flight to camp at 9:00 o'clock a.m. To ensure travel comfort, always plan your trip to arrive in Newfoundland on Saturday, overnight in St. John's and fly to camp on Sunday morning.
